Curriculum Vitae

The first thing one might notice about Gaultier is how he’s noticed them. He is first and foremost a people-person, and has a way about him that draws individuals in. He knows how to look at people to make them feel seen, what to say to make them feel heard, and often uses this to his advantage. The second thing one might notice about him is the extent of his ambition. Power-hungry, money-hungry, always looking for ways to strengthen his influence and build his empire. He tries to be subtle about it, with his smooth words and a calculated casualness, but a growling stomach is not so easy to disguise. The man himself, when not trying to win someone over on land or soothe some grievances with officers of the law, seems to have an appetite for amusement and a bit of fun. He regularly encourages the crew into song and dance, occasionally sweeping the nearest person up in a ballroom dance, and spontaneously prompts those on the deck into some silly games or contests. To keep morale high, he might suggest, but in truth he seems to enjoy it.Gaultier keeps his body in good condition and is decently muscular; he has a workout regimen that he sticks to daily and joins the crew in training activities. As for drinking, he does so surprisingly sparsely– only enough to be seen doing so in front of his crew and other people, never really to excess. He also spars with the larger and more combat-savvy members to keep his skills honed and push himself. The hatchet is his first choice, but he also has some notable skill in hand-to-hand combat and a bit less (though still respectable) in swordplay and knifeplay. On land he might be two-faced for the good of the business, but amongst those he trusts (namely, his crew) he does his best to be candid and transparent. Gaultier is fiercely loyal to those who are loyal to him, but as soon as someone breaks the code or falls out of his favor... he can turned quite cold, and has a distinct lack of mercy. In regards to those on his crew, he has a plethora of little bonding activities that he partakes in with them individually. From sparring to reading, whittling, star-gazing, flirting (to most all of them that seem to enjoy it or become embarrassed by it), sharing cups of coffee in the mornings; he may not have ample opportunities to do so with his workload, but he does try to steal away and get these one-on-one moments with his employees. He will also make the attempt to lend an ear to his crew when they have some personal troubles, but for petty issues and complaints… he tends to refer them to the proper channels instead (the quartermaster), and encourages them to work out interpersonal squabbles amongst themselves.Since Gaultier sees his crew as an extension of himself, he is **devoted ** to protecting them with the same intensity as he might defend himself. Man overboard? He’ll jump over the railing to pluck them back up. Suffered an injury? He’ll turn this boat right around to port and drag them to the nearest surgeon. It may have worn him a little thin over the years to stand in front of so many pointed blades and lose some sleep to their welfare, but the returns are more than worth it.Those who know him better may have realized that there is more to those charming smiles... or rather, less. Everything seems to be a facsimile, a poor copy of geniality. Something off, something not quite right, the lines between flattering the authorities and dallying with his crewmates blurred. This lack of distinction may have garnered some rumors.. that he doesn't feel anything at all. Still waters run deep? Perhaps, but sometimes smooth waters betray a riptide, leading out to the deadly, cold void of the ocean. A brutal and impartial force of nature, incapable of caring for those of the living.

Resume (Hooks)

★☆☆ = Common
★★☆ = Uncommon
★★★ = Rare (ask first)

Heavy Coffers ★☆☆Gaultier is always looking for candidates to join his crew, and his favorite method in recruiting is the good old fashioned way: money! Not only for the purposes of hopping aboard his ship, though: intelligence on land is essential for his “business model”, and he pays well to keep informed of certain things.Silver-Tongue ★☆☆Gaultier is in general a charismatic man. He is a sweet talker, a flatterer, respectful, and loyal to those who are loyal to him. He knows how to look at people to make them feel seen, and what to say to make them feel heard. It is entirely possible to join his crew without coercion or blackmail (and really those are only his last resorts, if he really really likes you). Maybe he won your character over with some sweet words, a bit of fluffing, an abundance of gifts, or instilling some confidence in them. He tries to impress upon every single person in his crew that they are an essential player in this grand undertaking. Don’t you want to be a part of it?

Zing went the Strings ★☆☆Gaultier has absolutely used his charms to get himself or his crew out of trouble in the past, and will do so again. He uses sex and romance as he would money, regardless of gender, it’s all transactional. Past getting what he wants, he also just finds it fun to flirt and enjoys making people feel good, so if he thinks it is welcome and will make someone happy he dips into it easily. He is a bit disconnected to actually have a genuine romance (or perhaps a… healthy one), but you are free to try.Clean-Up Job ★★☆He can, has, and will again, clean up messes with little fuss. Oh dear, have you accidentally committed a felony? Didn’t mean to kill that man, did you? It's no matter, he knows exactly which palms to grease and ears to tickle with saccharine words. All he asks in return is a signature, a contract. Just a few summers of service to him. No more than that, certainly.Brush with Death (★★★)Though it may be low on his list of preferences, murder is an option for him right along with filling out tax forms. The man may have a loose screw or two, a disconnect that allows him some impartiality, and has certainly killed when it was deemed necessary. It's not his favorite method though, often so messy and with too many unpredictable variables in the aftermath. (If you would like someone in your character’s backstory to have been a victim of his or his crew, feel free to reach out and we can plot!)

OOC

Timezone: PST (I work full time but I'm usually on in the evening!)
IC =/= OOC
RP Tag = IC!
Hello! Thank you for making it this far. I have some difficulty approaching people so walk-ups and tells are greatly appreciated!I am in my mid thirties and prefer +18 rp partners only. If you are underage please do not contact me to play. I enjoy most types of rp from dark/mature to slice of life. I'm okay with ERP as long as the player is +21 years old and it is not the focus.

My preferences are:

  • Para/Multi-Para (I have difficulty writing replies to short form rp and tend to shy away from it)

  • Dark / Mature

  • Plot-driven RP

  • Lore compliance

I do not want:

  • OOC/IC Bleeding (Please keep these two separate. I am not my character)

  • Metagaming (Do not just waltz up to Gaultier and know he is a pirate. He keeps this closely guarded secret, and his crew does the same. To the general public he is a businessman.)

  • Character death/maiming (I prefer anything serious be discussed OOC)

  • Lore breaking (a bit of bending is fine with me as long as it makes sense!)

Non-Disclosure Agreement (Rumors)

[Rumours about Gaultier may be true or false, take them with a grain of salt!]

  • "I heard he offed his own folks. Out there in the woods, who can say, you know? Could've chopped 'em up an' buried them under the floorboards."

  • "That Jehantel fellow? Who knows where he faffed off to. I feel sorry for his wife and daughter."

  • "The Legacy Trading Company? Never heard of 'em. What do they do? They must not advertise much..."

  • "He's quite the scholar, isn't he? He seemed particularly interested in history, geography and mathematics. Respectable fellow."

  • "I hear the man's down a finger. Yeah, his left ring finger's missin' is what's goin' around. Who knows, never seen him without gloves on."

  • "That spineless Jehantel conned me out of half a summer's wages! But when I went to the authorities, they couldn't find anything amiss. Said he had all his "paperwork" in order."

  • "A pirate? No, no, that's absurd! He's a perfect gentleman. He danced with me at a social event and I've never met a man so courteous before."

  • "Aye, used ta be part 'a his crew. Watched him slow dance with a man and then bite his ear off an' spit it into the sea. Dunno what that lad did, but... the Captain's off his rocker."

The ShroudKnown in these regions as the woodsman's son, this is where his story began. However, his ambition soon grew larger than the Shroud life could afford him, so he left in his youth to pursue a… career. Not much is known of his time here, but there are certainly rumors.

SharlayanWhat a lovely secluded nation, how secretive and yet prestigious. What a perfect place for one's origin story to begin, any outsider might agree. Many years ago, Gaultier established himself as a native as he realized the contrasts in reputation. Here in Sharlayan is the flagship office of the Legacy Trading Company, the manifesto of which is to promote the study and preservation of cultures in all regions through trade and commerce. That’s what he writes during tax season, anyway.

Limsa LominsaOf course the LTC has branches spanning Eorzea, and where better to situate one than a port town? Where better to find able-bodied individuals to hoist sails and oversee the operation of a ship, as well. When Gaultier made the shift, when his business became more seaward, he spent a great deal of time in this city. Amassing clout, funds, and employees of course.

Ul'dahNot often is the captain found so far inland, yet Ul'dah is a bustling city of trade and commerce. He would be a fool not to pop in every so often, to secure some nice deals and nicer gossip...

The Contract (Pirate Code)

Love thy Neighbor"Rule number one: kindly refrain from killing each other. I've brought each and every one of you aboard for a reason: you are talented individuals, and an essential cog in this grand design. Do treat each other as such. No stealing from one another, no stabbing one another (unless it's game night) and kindly no conspiring or scheming off the clock. Defend each other, cooperate with each other, and if a member of the crew goes down you had damned well do your best to not leave them behind. We are stronger together, we all lift together."

  • I. No killing each other. The punishment for murder is execution.

  • II. No stealing from individuals or the company. The punishment for theft is marooning and (1) finger relinquished.

  • III. No conspiring against the company or individuals. The punishment for malicious machinations is marooning and (1) tongue relinquished. The punishment for mutiny is execution.

  • **IV. **No deserting individuals or the company during combat. The punishment for deserters is marooning and (1) ear relinquished.

  • **V. **All individuals have a vote and a voice; each shall be called in turn and given fair chance and forum to speak.

Sharing is Caring"The division of funds acquired shall be in equal parts amongst participating parties to each individual job/haul. The captain shall receive an additional 15% for general repairs/maintenance of the ship, stock and ammunitions, marketing, and other miscellaneous investments. Should a member of the crew become ill / injured and unable to perform assigned duties despite their willingness, they shall still receive 50% of their initial cut as well as due time to rest and recover. Unwilling or uncooperative parties shall receive no pay."

  • VI. Each individual will receive equal parts of funds obtained.

  • VII. 15% of gross funds will be distributed to the captain for general maintenance/repairs of the ship, et cetera.

  • VIII. Injured / Temporarily disabled parties still willing to work will receive 50% of intended pay.

  • IX. Deceased members of the crew shall be compensated with a funeral funded by their intended pay. In the absence of a final will & testament, the deceased assets will be divided amongst the crew.

Speak Naught of it"On land, we are the Legacy Trading Company, and each and every one of you is a representative and has a role in that organization. If you have any questions or concerns about your 'role', I encourage you to come to me so that we may discuss it. Perhaps with a bit of improv! Speak less of it if you must, but kindly do not give the game away.""Right! Well, that is about it for now. Everything else is sort of case-by-case, we'll play it by ear. Thank you for your attention." - Gaultier

  • X. Play along. "Yes, and" only, no "No, buts". Those who do not play along will be flogged.

  • XI. No snitching or alluding to illegal affairs on land. Loose tongues will be relinquished and snitches will be keel-hauled.

  • XII. No cats. Gaultier's allergic and we keep birds. Any cats on board will be deposited at the nearest port and the owner will be flogged.
